One Battle After Another, Sinners head into Oscars week with WGA wins

The big rivalry of this awards season—One Battle After Another vs. Sinners—was not an issue at last night’s Writers Guild of America Awards. The two films were nominated in different categories—Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Screenplay, respectively—and both of them won. The other film award, Best Documentary Screenplay, went to 2,000 Meters to Andriivka, which was submitted by Ukraine for this weekend’s Oscars as the country’s entry for Best International Feature, but it was not nominated. On the TV side of things, The Pitt and The Studio continued their winning streaks from this season’s Emmy and Golden Globe awards.

The 2026 WGA Awards were hosted by Roy Wood Jr. and also featured Stephen Colbert receiving the Walter Bernstein Award for “willingness to confront social injustice in the face of adversity.” “As we know, the revolution will not be televised. It was going to be televised but then Paramount bought it,” Colbert joked during his acceptance speech. “I hear the revolution is thinking about starting a Substack.”
