You’re The Worst is back? That’s the best!
Here’s what’s up in the world of TV for Wednesday, August 31. All times are Eastern.
Top picks
You’re The Worst (FXX, 10 p.m.): In the immortal words (well, word) of Miss CeCe Peniston: “Finally.” Television is truly back with the return of FXX’s You’re The Worst for its third season. Remember how good season two was? Of course you do—we (meaning literally everyone) never shut up about it. And now we can get back to that superior way of life with the season three premiere, “Try Real Hard”: “Jimmy and Gretchen adjust to life after saying I love you. Edgar and Dorothy have sexual problems. Lindsay and Paul start a new hobby.” You didn’t hear it from us, but Vikram Murthi actually has no problem saying he loves you, You’re The Worst. He has no problem at all.
The Night Shift (NBC, 10 p.m.): The Night Shift ends its third season with “Burned,” which probably isn’t a backdoor pilot for a Dick Wolf-esque The Night Shift: Fire. But we can dream, can’t we? Instead, “in the second half of this two-part season finale, Scott (Scott Wolf) and Jordan (Jill Flint) must perform surgery in the field as the burning wildfire gains intensity around them.” Eh, we don’t know—sounds a lot like The Night Shift: Fire to us…
Greenleaf (OWN, 10 p.m.): Oprah’s family soap, Greenleaf, ends its first season tonight with the episode “What Are You Doing Here?” which is not to be confused with cult classic Ringer’s watershed episode, “What Are You Doing Here, Ho-Bag?” “Deacon Sykes has doubts about Lady Mae preaching at the ‘women’s day’ event; Basie wants Jacob to run Triumph’s new community center; and Lady Mae confronts Mavis.” We’re aware that these are all definitely characters on a show that exists, thanks to Oprah. Oprah!
