Sharon Horgan tries to date like the Youth in trailer for new HBO series

Dating is complicated, especially when you’re aging, divorced, and a parent. This is a truth that romantic comedies have illuminated for decades. But we haven’t gotten Bad Sisters‘ Sharon Horgan’s take on it for HBO yet, which is what the first trailer for Youth (a show that could perhaps have been alternatively titled How Sharon Got Her Groove Back) promises. Horgan created the series and stars in it as Alex, a 50-year-old divorcée looking for love and sex in seemingly a few of the right places. We don’t see her on the apps (at least in this trailer), a staple of 2026 dating, but rather at restaurants and the club. She’s also dealing with a son who may or may not have an overly dependent relationship with his phone and a couple of ailing parents. The plot synopsis from HBO doesn’t mention it, but based on the trailer, it seems like Alex might also be trying to get into the books business.

Youth also stars Rupert Friend, Sharlene Whyte, Aran Murphy, and Robbie Gee, and the first episode premieres on HBO on Sunday, September 20 at 10 pm.
