Introducing Endless Mode: A New Games & Anime Site from Paste
Zach Galifianakis had the audacity to join AMC’s upcoming Silicon Valley drama. No, not Silicon Valley—that one is still over. This is a completely new series officially titled The Audacity from Jonathan Glatzer, whose previous writing credits include Succession and Better Call Saul.
Per Deadline, The Audacity “is set in the bubble of Silicon Valley” and tells a very timely story. The series “features a cast of billionaires, strugglers, dreamers and others, chasing unicorn status, maintaining marriages, micro-dosing in search of futuristic solutions to present day problems, and channeling the audacity required to build a world that they are creating in front of our eyes. All while navigating the real life issues associated with the real world impacts of AI, big data, and the accelerating tech revolution,” per the trade’s description.
It sounds like Galifianakis’ character, Carl, will be a bit of a villain. “Wealthy beyond imagination, disillusioned beyond repair, Carl Bardolph has spent years watching from the shadows as the tech world churns forward, unimpressed by those who came after him and uninterested in returning,” Deadline reports. “But when Duncan (Billy Magnussen) comes to him and pulls him back into the world, Carl doesn’t return as a mentor or a savior, he comes back a problem.”
In addition to Galifianakis and Magnussen, The Audacity stars Sarah Goldberg, Lucy Punch, Simon Helberg, Rob Corddry, Meaghan Rath, Paul Adelstein, and Everett Blunck.
In a previous statement, Glatzer shared that The Audacity was inspired by some of the “frighteningly self-involved people” that exist in the real Silicon Valley. “They radiate a bizarre, semi-deity-like energy, but even they cannot escape their own humanity,” he said. “So rather than do something directly about ‘tech,’ I wanted to focus on the people. And not just the titans, but the antsy wannabe titans, the kids and spouses of the wannabes; their housekeepers, their schools, their psychiatrists, their dogs and gurus alike, all of them living in this bubble where they truly believe—and perhaps rightly—they are inventing the future, dogs excepted.”
The Audacity is currently slated to premiere some time next year.
