After she's done with Dune, Zendaya will team with Alex Garland for more sci-fi

Needless to say, Zendaya has had a pretty major year, appearing in the two highest-grossing films of the year, with the forthcoming Dune: Part Three likely to make some decent bank as well. But after she leaves Arrakis and the Duniverse, she’ll stick around in the sci-fi genre. According to The Hollywood Reporter, 2027 will see Zendaya film a sci-fi flick with director Alex Garland. That is more or less all that we know about the project at this point, but we’ll go out on a limb and guess the shoot will start after The Odyssey finishes a robust awards campaign in the first months of the new year.

The Dune trilogy represents Zendaya’s main foray into science fiction so far in her career, which has seen her work across genres. Garland also has a fairly diverse filmography, recently taking on military thrillers like Civil War and Warfare. He has some pretty solid sci-fi bona fides, however, writing and directing both Ex Machina and Annihilation. The next project on his docket is his Elden Ring adaptation, which will bow in theaters in 2028. Meanwhile, Zendaya is set to voice Shrek’s daughter in the upcoming fifth movie in the series; she’s also set to play Ronnie Spector in a Barry Jenkins-directed biopic, though we haven’t received any news about that in a while.
