Adult Swim buckles in for My Two Cars, a new animated comedy Joe Pera and Dan Licata

In an age when free expression is constantly under attack from the highest seats of power, only one show has the guts to explore the defining question of our age: If you owned a PT Cruiser and a Mini Cooper, which would you drive? Thankfully, Adult Swim is pulling a Ghostbusters and answering the call. Created by Joe Pera and Dan Licata, My Two Cars finally digs into the challenges of car ownership and the heretofore unexplored psychological effects it might have. The animated quarter-hour comedy, which just got the green light from Adult Swim, follows one Keith Asshole (voiced by Licata), an Ohioan caught in a love triangle among man and machine.

Here’s the logline:

Imagine you are lucky enough to own both a PT Cruiser and a Mini-Cooper. Your day-to-day life would be insane! But also hard hard. Keith Asshole does not have to imagine this, and in each episode, he has to make the difficult decision which one to drive.

“It’s a simple premise with good characters and great cars,” said Licata and Pera. “We appreciate Adult Swim allowing us to see such a dumb idea through into an entire season.”

Appropriately, My Two Cars is Pera’s second series for the network, following his warm-bath-of-a-series, Joe Pera Talks To You. Licata, meanwhile, wrote and appeared in one of Talks To You‘s most acclaimed episodes, “Joe Pera Reads You The Church Announcements.” Green Street Pictures, the studio behind Common Side Effects, is producing the series, which does not yet have a release date. Nevertheless, wherever Keith Asshole and his two cars go, we’ll follow.
