Ali G: Who Iz I? trailer sees The World's Chav asking life's biggest questions

Behold the rezurection—not that one—of Chav extraordinaire Alistair Leslie Graham, “Ali G” to the rest of us, in the new trailer for Ali G: Who Iz I?, Sacha Baron Cohen’s return to the character who first put his unique brand of comedic provocation on the map. However, recent Wimbledon monkeyshines notwithstanding, you’d be excused if you’d entirely forgotten Ali G over the past twenty years, as we’ve all been very busy.

Perhaps nerves are the reason Sacha Baron Cohen, creator, performer, writer, and first-time director, has titled his latest Ali G missive Who Iz I? For truly, who among us can define what one iz when one has been gathering duzt in their creator’s mind for the length of the entire Saw franchizzy? One who, in his first film appearance since 2002’s Indahouse, must reintroduce himself to a world that has grown indifferent to viral provocateurs over the past couple of decades? For who is Ali G, truly, in a post-COVID world where any chump with a phone can run around making strangers look ridiculous? In this new trailer, released by Amazon MGM Studios to promote its October 23 theatrical-only release, we discover that Ali G is still figuring that shit out, as must we all.

Among Ali G’s latest hijinks on his road to rediscovery: Pulling from a pregnancy test like it were a vape and suggesting it “tastes of piss”; a rap-off with a student (who calls him a “pedo”); dropping a deuce with the bathroom door open and encouraging the poor sap who wanders in to join him in the thickening atmosphere; engaging in an ASMR discussion of Iran with retired Brigadier General C. Stewart Rodeheaver (as he squishes shaving cream on the microphones); and, perhaps most pertinent to the ethos of Who Iz I?, an A-plot involving his pregnant girlfriend Julie (The Witches‘ Morgana Robinson) as Ali G navigates the head-spinning imminence of fatherhood, prompting his quest back to America to earn that cheddar the only way he knows how—by interviewing and then alienating the most newsworthy subjects his easily Googleable profile can rope in—because, as most new dads will tell you, diapers ain’t cheap.
