Because people who spend their mornings watching the insipid cheeriness of The Today Show are probably the same people who record every Lifetime original movie, the cable network is turning the morning staple's recent controversy into a film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie will be adapted from Brian Stelter’s 2013 book Top Of The Morning, which details Ann Curry’s short-lived stint co-hosting The Today Show, as well as the rivalry between the long-running NBC series and ABC’s Good Morning America.
Producers Liz Gateley and Tony DiSanto apparently want the film to have “the same kind of cultural resonance” as HBO’s Game Change—although it will almost certainly have more in common with other Lifetime films like Sexting In Suburbia and Fab Five: The Texas Cheerleader Scandal. Casting hasn't been announced yet, so feel free to spend the commercial breaks of Accused At 17 fantasizing about who could play Curry. Olivia Munn certainly has the right look, but Sandra Oh has the crying skills necessary for Lifetime.
