Never one to miss an opportunity to promote new music, André 3000 wore a piano to the Met Gala to celebrate the release of his new EP. Wearing the music on his back, André 3000 recreated the cover to his latest, 7 piano sketches, which he released as he walked the stairs that Jason Deluro made famous.
However, while the album perfectly pairs with his fit, the origins of his latest work precede his acclaimed 2023 flute-based record, New Blue Sun. Nearly a decade ago, while staying in a Texas house with only his son, a piano, their beds, and TV screens, André 3000 began tickling the ivories for what would one day become 7 sketches. He started working on it before being known as a Grammy-nominated flautist, which explains why he nearly called it The Best Worst Rap Album In History. Had the EP arrived before the New Blue Sun had risen, André-heads probably would’ve expected to hear some new rhymes. Unfortunately, as the tracklist states, “WARNING NO BARS.”
“It’s jokingly the worst rap album in history because there are no lyrics on it at all,” André 3000 said. “It’s the best because it’s the free-est emotionally and best I’ve felt personally. It’s the best because it’s like a palette cleanser for me.'”
7 piano sketches can be found wherever music is streamed.
