Anne Hathaway too pregnant for Hot Ones

Hathaway's doctor deemed the wings of death too dangerous.

Anne Hathaway too pregnant for Hot Ones

For the past couple of months, Anne Hathaway has been hard at work promoting The Devil Wears Prada 2, The Odyssey, The End of Oak Street, and her latest film, Verity—all while pregnant with her third child—but her doctor drew the line at appearing on Hot Ones. In Verity, adapted from Colleen Hoover’s novel of the same name, Hathaway stars as Verity Crawford, a bestselling author who can’t finish her popular book series because of an accident. To show the character’s popularity and status as a famous author, the film has Verity go on a press tour and appear on Call Her Daddy and Hot Ones, like real-life celebrities who jump through hoops to promote their latest project do. In an interview with Talk of the Townsends podcast hosts Benedict and Hannah Townsend, Hathaway said she “did the first three wings for real, and then I switched to dummy wings” while filming as Verity.

The actor said she hoped to test her spice tolerance and take on the 10-wing gauntlet challenge for real opposite Hot Ones host Sean Evans during the actual press tour for Verity, but her doctor thought the wings of death could jeopardize her pregnancy. “I thought that I was gonna be able to do the Hot Ones challenge to do press for this film because it just made sense, but then I got pregnant and my doctor said I couldn’t do it because I might go into early labor,” Hathaway said. Considering that celebrity reactions to the hot wings have ranged from tears and runny noses to walking off set and vomiting (in Tom Holland’s case), maybe it’s for the best that Hathaway sat this one out. There’s always the press tour for the Days of Thunder sequel or the long-gestating Princess Diaries 3.
