The debate over the ethics of drone-based warfare is one of the hottest topics in the modern age, as evidenced by the fact that at least three separate movies about the unexpected horrors of drones have been released over the last three years. Of course, while those movies each presented their own variations of the argument that drones are bad, the United States is still tossing them out all over the place. Perhaps, then, the country needs one more movie about drones to really put this over the edge and convince people that maybe they’re not as cool as those Call Of Duty games make them out to be.
Anne Hathaway is the latest person to answer the call for more anti-drone movies, with Variety reporting that she’s set to produce and star in an adaptation of the George Brant play Grounded. Hathaway appeared in a Julie Taymor-directed production of the play last year, and she was apparently “so enthusiastic about the material” that she picked up the rights before she had even done one performance. Variety says the original play was a “single-actor drama,” but this movie version will hopefully give Hathaway someone to talk to at least. Maybe a personified drone that supports their use in combat? That might be fun.
