Way back in February, we reported that Oscar-nominated The Big Sick writers Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon were developing an anthology series about immigrants called Little America for Apple’s then-mysterious streaming platform. Now, Apple has given the show a series order, officially putting Nanjiani and Gordon alongside other big-name creators like Oprah Winfrey and Reese Witherspoon on the streaming platform—which is still just as mysterious as it was in February, since we know absolutely nothing about it.
This news comes from Variety, which says The Office’s Lee Eisenberg will act as showrunner, with Master Of None’s Alan Yang joining Nanjiani and Gordon as an executive producer. The show’s episodes will be based on true immigrant stories from Epic Magazine that are “funny, romantic, heartfelt, inspiring, and surprising.” Like every other Apple show, we don’t know when Little America will premiere, we don’t know if it’ll be a Netflix-style full-season dump, and we don’t know if it’ll cost money to watch.
Also, once again, we would really like Apple to start sharing some more information about what it’s planning to do with all of these TV shows.
