Apple rolls out new subscription plan for magazines, newspapers, other things that need saving
Rupert Murdoch’s new iPad-only “newspaper” The Daily has already forced the media to put ironic quotes around the word “newspaper”—both because it’s paperless, and because so far it’s like a less hard-hitting USA Today—and it’s changing the future in at least one other way. As predicted, The Daily has encouraged Apple to roll out a subscription plan for other providers on its App Store, allowing publishers of magazines, “newspapers,” video, and music to charge users for updated content on their iPads and other devices. It’s possibly the future of media, as the first-generation Rupert Murdoch foresaw centuries ago after drinking tea from Nostradamus’ skull.
