Behold, the Star Wars equivalent of Paul’s Boutique

DJ Food, an electronic music project created by Strictly Kev, has culled together a big ol’ love letter to that galaxy far, far, away.

“The Tracks Go Off In This Direction” is not only a musical mix, but a visual one, and is sure to be enjoyed by Rebels, Imperial officers, and smugglers alike. On the aural end of things, DJ Food samples from several well-known sources, including Meco’s Star Wars And Other Galactic Funk and Richard Cheese’s Imperial March. There’s also more obscure and rare cuts, such as Ska Wars—released in 1977 by the late Rico Rodriguez of The Specials—and Dickie Goodman’s Star Warts 45. You needn’t worry; Figrin D’an And The Modal Nodes are featured prominently and Bill Murray’s Nick Ocean makes an appearance.

The accompanying video is perhaps even more fun from a fan perspective, featuring the now-classic-in-its-own-right fan-film Troops, deleted scenes from Star Wars, a really cool Robotech-style space battle animated by a fan, old Kenner toy commercials, and even a few clips from the actual films cut to look like a Saul Bass credit sequence. Even more so than the music clips, this is a copyright and licensing nightmare that caused the video to disappear for a parsec, but it’s back online for your viewing and listening pleasure.
