Billy Joel won't perform again until his shows stop basically concussing him

Billy Joel is doing better, thank you very much, but still not quite good enough to step under the bright lights again. Joel announced a break from performing after a scary on-stage fall in February of last year and has yet to return. Though his condition has improved since, doctors tell him he has hydrocephalus, which, Joel notes, used to be called “water on the brain.” Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter before auctioning off 70 of his prized motorcycles, Joel explains, “I’m OK. They call it a brain disorder, but it’s not that serious.” Still, the condition affects his balance, memory, vision, and hearing, all of which are pretty important to his stage show. His return to MSG and the driver’s seat remains contingent on a doctor’s note, namely because his concerts basically keep giving him the equivalent of concussions. “I have to take series of tests before I know, but I can’t drive right now,” he says. “I’m not allowed to drive. And I can’t do performances because, what the neurologist told me, every time you do a show, it’s like you’re getting a concussion.”
