Bruce Campbell is hoping for 5 seasons of Ash Vs. Evil Dead

When Bruce Campbell strapped on chainsaw once again for the first season of Starz’ horror-action-comedy Ash Vs. Evil Dead, it almost seemed too much to hope that the series would be anything better than “not bad.” When it actually turned out to be pretty damn good, it seemed preposterous to imagine that they could replicate that black magic for a second season. But season two is already off to a really good start. Now we’re forced to wonder how long they can keep this up.

For his part, star and co-producer Bruce Campbell wants to make a stab at three more seasons after this one: “I’ll take five seasons of this,” Campbell told Comic Book Resources. “Give the fans a big boost of the material; they’ll have 25 fresh hours of the show after this, after we’re done, and that’s like making 12 movies!”

Clearly, the 58-year-old actor is happy to keep playing Ash Williams, a character he originated 35 years ago in Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead, into his 60s. “I’m delighted with Ash. He’s officially the best character that I’ve ever played, and it’s one that I’m going to investigate and explore until they tell me I can’t do it anymore,” he said. “I find Ash, with all of his flaws, all his foibles, all his mistakes, so wonderfully human…”

The gore-filled series—co-starring Lucy Lawless, Ray Santiago, Dana Delorenzo, and Lee Majors—airs on Starz on Sunday nights.
