It’s been six years since Agence Samuel Kerr, a.k.a. ASK, last provided clients with a worthwhile project. That’s because the beloved French series Call My Agent wrapped its fourth season on Netflix in 2020, with the agency closing its doors and real-life producers promising a TV movie and fifth season sometime in the near future. (We’ve heard that one before.) A project being waylaid for years is the type of thing one might see on Call My Agent, but those still holding out hope for more French film industry satire should consider thanking their reps.
Earlier today, Netflix released the trailer for the long-rumored Call My Agent: The Movie. Set five years after the agency closed, Andréa (Camille Cottin) is finally ready to cease making others’ dreams come true and start working on her own. Now directing her first movie, she’s getting to see the joys of the industry from the other side of the phone. When her lead actor drops out of her movie for a “shit role with Wes Anderson,” she reteams with Noémie (Laure Calamy), who’s become a successful reality TV producer and who Andréa believes is easily manipulated. Amid the production turmoil, Andréa’s also waging a custody battle over her daughter while the ASK egos leave her wishing she had a better agent to call.
Directed by Emilie Noblet, Call My Agent: The Movie was written by Lison Daniel and series creator Fanny Herrero. It stars many of the familiar faces of ASK, including Camille Cottin, Laure Calamy, Thibault de Montalembert, Grégory Montel, Nicolas Maury, Fanny Sidney, Liliane Rovère, Laetitia Casta, Vincent Macaigne, Ophélia Kolb, Anne Marivin, and Laurent Lafitte.
Call My Agent: The Movie streams on Netflix on September 10.
