Cardi B goes both soft and hard in her new single, "Be Careful"

Reigning queen of hip-hop Cardi B has released the first single from her upcoming studio debut Invasion Of Privacy, and it’s as contrary (and tasty) of a blend as chilis and chocolate. On the one hand, “Be Careful” bops along on an easygoing, Latin-influenced beat. On the other, the lyrics of the song go in on a cheating man—presumably, Cardi B’s fiancee, Offset of Migos—letting him know in no uncertain terms that he’s making a terrible mistake prioritizing casual sex over true love. “She don’t even know your middle name / Watch out, she might steal your chain,” Cardi B raps.

Lauryn Hill is credited as a co-writer on “Be Careful,” which borrows the bridge from Hill’s song “Ex-Factor” off of her solo debut The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill. Perhaps less than coincidentally, Hill was the last female rapper to score a No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hit in 1998 with “Doo Wop (That Thing),” until Cardi B repeated the feat with her song “Bodak Yellow” last year.

Invasion Of Privacy drops next Friday, April 6.
