CBS announces renewals for virtually everything but ¡Rob!
In news that will greatly excite anyone who’s anxiously awaiting the chance to spend next fall and winter in front of a TV, watching everything that's on the air already, CBS has announced that it has renewed pretty much everything on its schedule that doesn’t star an underperforming former Saturday Night Live cast member, isn’t a CSI spin-off, and is not laboring under a curse levied on it by a Vatican assassin warlock, Hitfix is reporting. Among the newer shows, Person Of Interest and 2 Broke Girls will coming back for second seasons in the fall, while A Gifted Man, the sophisticated urban drama in which a ghost encourages Nite Owl to be a better doctor, and the inaccurately titled Unforgettable will be spending the next several nights sitting at home, waiting for the phone to ring. (That anachronistic shout-out to a time when people didn’t carry their phones around with them is a loving tribute to the stereotypically aging and hipness-challenged CBS viewer, whose allegiance has made it the currently highest-rated network.)
The best news for TV Club favorites is that the network has also renewed The Good Wife, the Chicago-based legal/political drama that has been acclaimed as the true successor to The Wire by at least two major outlets, one of which is not The New Yorker. Other renewals include How I Met Your Mother, Mike & Molly, The Big Bang Theory, Survivor, The Amazing Race, Hawaii Five-O, original recipe CSI, The Mentalist, Blue Bloods, NCIS and its spin-off NCIS: LA, 48 Hours Mystery, Undercover Boss, and, here’s a shocker, 60 Minutes now in its 43rd season. Currently twisting in the wind are The Rules Of Engagement and ¡Rob!—the shows that cost Patrick Warburton and Cheech Marin, respectively, their souls—CSI: Miami and CSI: New York, and Two And A Half Men. All or most of them will probably be renewed after the network suits are reminded that they have to put something on during those broadcast hours, think about what it would be like to explore different options, and shudder.
