The third season, which reunites the Defenders cast, will be the last for the Marvel Television revival series.

Charlie Cox advocates for a new

Marvel Television took NYCC by storm Friday evening to announce that, instead of letting the press ring the death knell for MCU TV, maybe everyone should start ringing the life knell, if there was ever such a thing. It revealed that the top-secret spy thriller series Zodiac and the irascible scamp Deadpool would be popping by X-Men ’97 season three, as the eldritch prophecies foretold; later, it even screened the full first episode of VisionQuest for panel attendees, which was awfully polite. Amid all this Marvel TV hullabaloo, however, was the panel’s centerpiece: Three of the four cast members of The Defenders—Charlie Cox (Daredevil), Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), and Finn Jones (Iron Fist), who was just happy to be there—took the stage to hype up season three of Daredevil: Born Again, which will ostensibly be a Defenders reunion season as well as the revival series’ last. (Mike Colter, who plays Luke Cage and couldn’t attend the panel, was reportedly “busy” with work.)

As to whether season three of Born Again would mark the last time Charlie Cox chucks a billy club as Hell’s Kitchen’s resident Hornhead (at least professionally), Cox shrugged in that casual, charismatic way that makes him so darn appealing as Matt Murdock. “Don’t know, man,” he said to IGN’s Jeffrey Vega after the panel wrapped. “I don’t know. I mean, it might be. It might be.” And while one of the hard truths about superhero live-action is that actors can play their respective characters for only so long—the inexorable march of time and all that—it seems any cancellation of a Daredevil TV show can’t stop his vocal fan base from demanding even more Daredevil on TV. Cox, a canny fellow who is certainly aware of his continued love and support from Daredevil fans, followed with, “Don’t worry about Kevin [Feige]. Get the ‘Save Daredevil’ campaign on the horn. Get them motivated. That engine, that won’t stop until there’s some resolution. That’s my true superpower—the ‘Save Daredevil’ campaign!”
