Introducing Endless Mode: A New Games & Anime Site from Paste

Take a trip to France this May courtesy of a first-time director, Durga Chew-Bose. In Bonjour Tristesse, an adaptation of Françoise Sagan’s 1954 novella, Chloë Sevigny crashes the seaside vacation of 18-year-old Cécile (Lily McInerny), her widowed father (Claes Bang), and his girlfriend (Naïlia Harzoune). Sevigny plays Anne, a friend of Cécile’s late mother, and Cécile, desperate to return to her relaxing summer on the beach, sets in motion a disastrous plan to drive Anne away.

Here’s the trailer:

Primarily known as a writer, Chew-Bose released her first essay collection, Too Much And Not The Mood, about her experiences as a first-generation immigrant in Montreal, in 2017. With Bonjour Tristesse, she brings a sense of dread to the beautiful coast and coming-of-age wonder, which tends to happen when an uninvited Chloë Sevigny darkens your doorway.

‌Bonjour Tristesse opens on May 2.
