Given how many people Marvel and the Russo Brothers are currently throwing at this December’s Avengers: Doomsday, you’d be forgiven for losing track of which names are in, and which names are out, of the film’s cast list/chair roster. If you needed a reminder that Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord is not on the guest list, though, you need look no further than Pratt himself, who’s once again reassuring people that he’s going to find a way back inside the Marvel Machine one of these days.
This is per a recent interview Pratt gave to The Playlist, where he asserted that “I have a great relationship with Kevin [Feige] and Lou.” (That is, Marvel Studios co-president Lou D’Esposito, executive producer on the entire MCU.) “There have been both ongoing conversations about how we make good on that promise and also hard action taken to make sure that we make good on that promise,” Pratt said, referencing a line at the end of 2023’s Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3—a.k.a., the last time Pratt appeared in a Marvel movie—that “The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return.” Pratt didn’t clarify what “hard action” means in this regard, but he certainly sounds confident that it’s meaningful, even if he’s not expected to pop up in any of these newfangled Avengers movies any time soon. “You’ll see Star-Lord again, which is very exciting,” he said in the podcast interview. “But I’m not at liberty to say when that’s going to be, but he’s not going anywhere.”
Of the various cast members of James Gunn’s Guardians movies, Pratt has been the most publicly vocal about wanting to stick with Marvel even after his writer and director jumped ship to run the Distinguished Competition a few years back. Back in January, he revealed that he’d actually made a pitch of his own to Feige about how to bring Peter Quill back to theaters, declaring that he had “a great fucking idea” of how to bring the character back, while also making it clear that he’s told Feige he’ll do basically any return part they threw at him. Hey, he’s Star-Lord, not “An Overwhelming Abundance Of Dignity-Lord,” right?
