DC launches digital comic based on ‘70s Wonder Woman TV show
Things didn’t work out so well for David E. Kelley’s Wonder Woman TV series, which was crushed under the weight of comparisons to the Wonder Women that came before. So for its new digital series, Wonder Woman ’77, DC is playing it safe by giving fans a Wonder Woman (and a Wonder Woman costume) they already know. The digital comic will be directly spun off from the ‘70s Wonder Woman TV show, and model its heroine after series star Lynda Carter. Marc Andreyko has been recruited to write the series, with covers by Nicola Scott and art from some people still TBA.
Wonder Woman ’77 will most likely follow the (critically-acclaimed) example set by Batman ’66, DC’s other throwback title based on a TV spinoff of one of its characters. Like Batman ’66, Wonder Woman ’77 will release digital chapters weekly beginning in December, eventually collecting them in a print version that will hit stores in 2015. Zack Snyder, meanwhile, is still doing his own thing.
