In the aftermath of Dolly Parton’s death on Tuesday, countless people touched by the country icon’s generosity (of both spirit and much-needed money) have shared anecdotes about just how all-embracing was Parton’s love and kindness. That even extends to other musical artists whose work might seem antithetical to the famously devout Parton’s own tastes, as none other than rap superstar Eminem shared his unexpected letter of encouragement from the singer on Instagram.
After they were both inducted into the rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2022, Eminem received a note from Parton following his rousing performance at the event. Calling the singer by his real first name (“Eminem” included respectfully in parentheses), Parton expressed the sort of heartfelt sentiment anyone, famous or not, would want to hang onto for the rest of their lives.
