Yoshi is apparently a bit of a chatterbox in the upcoming Super Mario sequel.

Donald Glover to swallow, spit dinosaur eggs in The Super Mario Galaxy movie

Everybody’s favorite video game dinosaur will be making his entrance into the Super Mario Movie galaxy next month, and he’ll have a lot to say, apparently. In celebration of Mario Day Eve, Nintendo announced that Yoshi would finally be offering Mario a seat on his back in the upcoming Mario Galaxy Movie. More interestingly, Mario’s green reptilian steed will be voiced by Donald Glover, who will chirp, groan, and squeak as the delightful dino. Hey, it worked for Heihei. He’ll join other late additions, Luis Guzmán (King Wart) and Issa Rae (Honey Queen), who were announced during today’s Nintendo Direct, too.

Last heard as Simba in the Lion King prequel, Mufasa, Glover hasn’t been too active since starring on Prime Video’s Mr. And Mrs. Smith in 2024. That year, he announced a new movie, Bando Stone & The New World, but only a soundtrack ever materialized, leading some to wonder whether the movie’s trailer was simply marketing for the album. That summer, Glover began a massive farewell tour for his Childish Gambino moniker but abruptly canceled the last leg in September 2024, revealing later that he experienced a stroke and had surgery to fix a hole in his heart

We have yet to hear Glover’s Yoshi voice, but considering what Nintendo ultimately did with Mario, we’ll assume that it’ll just be Glover’s normal speaking voice. Though often silent, Yoshi does speak in the Paper Mario games, so maybe this movie takes place in that timeline. Perhaps more importantly than Yoshi’s vocal stylings, we would like to know who voices the adorable fascist Luma, who calls his prisoners “maggots” at the end of the latest trailer.
