The line between fake movie and real movie is getting blurrier every day. It took YouTube ages to finally demonetize some of those fake trailer channels all over the platform. Now, a viral fake trailer is becoming a real movie. Don’t worry—you’re not the only one struggling to keep up.

The newest real/fake movie is called The Diggers, and it’s based on a viral video posted by comedian Druski. If you haven’t heard of it, don’t stress. It only debuted four days ago, though Theo Von—podcaster, Logan Paul prankee, and co-star of the fake trailer—first teased the project in a 2024 episode of his podcast, This Past Weekend. The YouTube video has a glossy, uncanny sheen and features appearances from Shane Gillis, Navv Greene, and BenDaDonnn. If that’s not your scene, here’s a summary, courtesy of Von (via Complex):

Me and Druski did a fake movie. It was, like, a fake movie that we made… This shit was messed up. So the family is called the Diggers… Druski wrote it. The dad dies. Druski and his sister, they’re inheriting the funeral parlor, and I’m married to Druski’s sister, so I’m getting a part of the funeral parlor. And they’re not happy about it.

But anyway, we’re at the funeral of the dad, the guy that died, and his name was Nathan Digger, right? So, I had to make a speech in front of all these people. And it was like—I don’t know if I can say this now—but I was like, ‘Man, this the best Digga we ever had in the whole world. And it was a room full of Black folks. I didn’t know any of them. And Druski and them are in the background just howling… It got really scary, even for a little while. Druski is hilarious.

Black-ish creator Kenya Barris thought the skit was funny, at least, because he’s now working with Druski to turn it into a feature-length film. Druksi’s company 4lifers Entertainment and Barris’ Khalabo Ink Society are both backing the project, per The Hollywood Reporter.

The film is described as “an old-school buddy comedy” focused on Druski’s character, though as of this writing, it’s unclear whether Von, Gillis, and co. will reprise their roles. While this does feel like a quick turnaround, Barris’ involvement isn’t completely out of left field. The two previously worked together on Grown-ish, on which Druski played a recurring role. “There’s just something about him, a star quality, that thing you can’t describe,” Barris told THR about the comedian in 2024. “Executives, casting directors and writers have done a really bad job of bringing up the next crop of stars. Druski can be that for this group because he is the guy who believes in the craft.”
