Apple TV to stream Anna Torv-starring crime drama Dustfall

Apple TV announced on Wednesday that it has secured worldwide distribution rights for Dustfall, a buzzy new crime drama in which Mindhunter‘s Anna Torv takes a stab at playing a haunted police detective investigating a mystery that unearths long-repressed secrets. (It was her turn!) Apple’s acquisition of the Australian series, a co-production by Soapbox Pictures and Moonriver Television, follows a successful season run for Apple’s previous Aussie-produced thriller, Last Seen, and comes after Dustfall landed on The Hollywood Reporter‘s list of the ten standout international series from this year’s Series Mania, the global marketplace where streamers can preview prospective shows for their platforms.

Described as a “propulsive, atmospheric tropic noir” in the series’ logline, Dustfall follows “seasoned detective” Antigone “Tig” Pollard (Torv), who, amid dim-bulb jokes from the local constabulary about her interesting name (presumably), learns the key suspect in her sexual assault case has been found dead, pulling Tig into a deeper search for the truth. And as is strictly required in gritty cop dramas such as this, the traumatic truth behind Tig’s latest case unearths a few repressed traumas of her own. Between this, Mare Of Easttown, and that last True Detective season, there oughta be paid trauma counselling for the leads of these series, we’re telling you.

Filling out the show’s expansive cast is Juliet Stevenson (Truly, Madly, Deeply), Peter Fenton (Love Is A Four Letter Word), Bert LaBonté (Last Seen), Zoe Phillips (East of Eden), Kate Box (Deadloch), Lila McGuire (Goolagong), Harry Gilchrist (Silent), Ling Cooper Tang (Troppo), Gemma Chua-Tran (Heartbreak High), Alice Ansara (Black Snow), Martin Sacks (The Survivors), Theo Haitana (Heart of the Man), Conrad Coleby (All Saints), Ben Knight (Bay of Fires), Kirsty O’Connor (A Little Resistance), Jay Ryan (Territory), Ed Wightman (Last Days Of The Space Age) and Luke J. Morgan (NCIS: Sydney). *drinks some water, takes a breath* You can read the full logline below:

Dustfall is a propulsive, atmospheric tropic noir that follows a seasoned detective, Antigone “Tig” Pollard (Torv), whose deep sense of justice is challenged by a world where victims are doubted, predators hide in plain sight, and the legal system too often falls short. Tig is called in to investigate a harrowing sexual assault case which spirals darker after a key suspect turns up dead. As Tig hunts for the truth, she’s forced to confront long-buried secrets from her own adolescence.

Written by co-creator Dianne Taylor (After The Party), based on Vikki Petraitis’ novel The Unbelieved (which is such a better title than Dustfall, but we digress), and directed by Emma Freeman (The Newsreader, which also starred Torv), Dustfall will premiere on Apple TV in 2027. Unless, of course, you live in Australia—then, you’ll watch the series on ABC and ABC iview beginning this Sunday night. That’s right, even though the rest of us won’t see Dustfall for a while yet, our friends Down Under already have a trailer for the series, which we’ve included below. International TV! Such a squirmy thing.
