Netflix shares new look at Florence Pugh's trip East Of Eden

If you’re one of those “read the book before the movie/limited series people,” you don’t have a ton of time for East Of Eden. Netflix confirmed this morning that the series will debut on October 1 after previously just telling us it would be “this fall.” John Steinbeck’s novel is pretty long, but if you start now and read about 100 pages a week, you should be well prepared to meet Cathy Ames, played here by Florence Pugh. (Those who have read the book will know that it takes a little while for Cathy to show up, so we might assume that the series is a somewhat-abbreviated version of Steinbeck’s tome.)

Anyway, along with the release date, Netflix also shared some new images of the series. The streamer did release a teaser for the series during its upfront presentation in the spring, but this one serves as a good reminder that Mike Faist, an actor who has been in woefully short supply since 2024’s Challengers, is in this. Christopher Abbott is also here, though he’s been in a lot of stuff lately and has just joined the X-Men.

The official synopsis for the series reads:

This modern interpretation of Steinbeck’s masterpiece will explore the multigenerational saga of the Trask family, focusing new attention on its indelible antihero, Cathy Ames.

This East Of Eden is adapted by Zoe Kazan, the granddaughter of previous East Of Eden adapter Elia Kazan. It premieres on Netflix on October 1.
