Even at the Oscars, Jimmy Kimmel can’t stop talking about Matt Damon
Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel used his monologue to go after his favorite target, Matt Damon, the frequent subject of his (fake) ire. Though he framed his remarks as an attempt to ”bury the hatchet” with Damon—who stared at the floor throughout—they were savage. “I’ve known Matt so long when I first met Matt I was the fat one,” he said. Kimmel went on to explain that Damon could have starred in the nominated Manchester By The Sea, but instead handed off duties to Casey Affleck and made what Kimmel called the “Chinese ponytail movie,” a.k.a. The Great Wall. “That movie, The Great Wall, went on to lose $80 million,” Kimmel said. “Smooth move, dumb ass.”
Of course, Kimmel also had some words for Donald Trump. “I want to say thank you to President Trump,” he cracked. “I mean, remember last year when it seemed like the Oscars were racist?” He also paid special tribute to Meryl Streep, riffing on Trump’s comment that she was “overrated.” Kimmel asked Streep to stand for a “totally undeserved round of applause,“ for which she happily obliged.
