Florence And The Machine honor an absent Dave Grohl at Glastonbury

When Dave Grohl broke his leg earlier this month, it not only imperiled one of music’s most talented reservoirs of giddily deployed Dad Jokes; it also disrupted several stops on the Foo Fighters’ current European tour. One of the biggest of those canceled shows, the band’s headlining performance at the U.K.’s massive Glastonbury Festival, occurred last night, with indie rockers Florence And The Machine filling in for Grohl and company.

But lead singer Florence Welch and her mechanical associates did their best to ensure that Grohl was at least attending in spirit, deploying an acoustic version of the Foo Fighters’ “Times Like These” as part of their set, available below.

Welch gave a lovely and sincere tribute to Grohl before playing the song, thanking him for the support and friendship he’s provided the band over the years. She also expressed the hope that, “Through the Glastonbury ley lines, this gets to you, and you feel better,” because there are some things you just have to say if you spend the majority of your professional career in floral crowns and loose, floppy shirts.
