When Fountain Of Youth released its first trailer, this writer commented that the premise—goofy, determined treasure hunter looks for clues and unravels historic conspiracy to hide mystical artifacts—looked a whole lot like National Treasure. Well, the clues she picked up on were correct because the film’s latest trailer looks even more like National Treasure. In addition to the international goose chase, this Guy Richie-directed project also adds theft of an important piece of cultural history (art instead of the Declaration of Independence this time around), some sort of map hidden within that artifact, a quest to prove that a treasure hunter father was right all along, and even a goofy but practical sidekick just like National Treasure‘s Riley (Justin Bartha), played by Domhnall Gleason.

Unfortunately for fans of real silliness, Fountain Of Youth also swaps out Nicolas Cage for John Krasinski. Other cast members include Natalie Portman as Krasinski’s skeptical sister and Eiza González as some sort of rival treasure hunter or treasure protector, as well as Arian Moayed, Laz Alonso, Carmen Ejogo, and Stanley Tucci.

Putting National Treasure aside for a second, the logline for Fountain Of Youth reads as follows: Fountain of Youth follows two estranged siblings (John Krasinski and Academy Award winner Natalie Portman) who partner on a global heist to find the mythological Fountain of Youth. They must use their knowledge of history to follow clues on an epic adventure that will change their lives… and possibly lead to immortality.” Yeah, eternal life is great and all, but has this crew ever found a pair of weird glasses invented by Benjamin Franklin inside a hollow brick? That’s what treasure hunting is all about, baby!

We’ll see what clues they are able to find—and how many U.S. dollars they look at through a Dasani bottle—when Fountain Of Youth premieres May 23 on Apple TV+.
