FXX renews Man Seeking Woman for a second season

Surreal situations, a significantly tamer Eric Andre, and hordes of actual monsters are coming back to prevent Jay Baruchel from finding true love as FXX renews Man Seeking Woman, its first original comedy series, for a second season. The show is currently in the midst of its 10-episode debut, and was conceived by Simon Rich, a former writer for Saturday Night Live and current writer at Pixar. Ratings haven’t been strong—Deadline reports the comedy was averaging 254,000 adults 18-34 through five episodes—but FX has demonstrated serious patience with the original content on its networks. In fact, every live action FX series over the past four years has gone to a second season, and let’s not forget It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia is presently in season 10.

In addition to serving as showrunner, Rich executive produces with Jonathan Krisel, Lorne Michaels, and Broadway Video’s Andrew Singer. He said he’s “so grateful” for the renewal and “can’t wait to get back to work.” There’s no official word yet from Baruchel, who stars as hopeless romantic Josh Greenberg, but he’s probably thrilled this didn’t end up as another Undeclared.
