Elizabeth Holmes' partner reportedly trying to lawyer up

A new report suggests that one of the disagreements between Billy Evans and Nathan Fielder depicted in You Can See Everything did not end when the credits rolled.

Elizabeth Holmes' partner reportedly trying to lawyer up

This story contains plot details from You Can See Everything.

Those who have seen You Can See Everything know that there is some debate to be had about the way that disgraced Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes comes off in the movie, but there’s really no disputing that her partner Billy Evans comes off as a pretty nasty, conniving dude. Among the bigger reveals in the doc’s second half is that Evans (and, to a debatable extent, Holmes) sought payment for their appearances in the documentary—a request that Nathan Fielder and co-director Lance Oppenheim both feel would compromise the project. As the doc ends, the audience learns that Evans ultimately decided to forgo payment. However, now that the doc has been a runaway box office hit, it sounds like Evans might not be ready to let that particular dream go.

This is per a new report in Page Six Hollywood, which claims that Evans has been reaching out to powerful Hollywood lawyers in a purported attempt to claim some of the profits from You Can See Everything. He seems to be having mixed results so far; one person quoted in the story says of one high-profile lawyer, “He wanted to stay away from that one.” Naturally, the report says that Evans, who comes from a family of wealthy hoteliers, wants the profits so he can give them to charity.

Assuming the report is accurate, it would be unsurprising for Evans to lawyer up after the film, which, it bears repeating, really does not present him in a good light, debuted. In its opening weekend, it grossed $15 million, becoming the highest-grossing, non-pop-star-puff-piece documentary since Fahrenheit 9/11. What’s more, You Can See Everything made that money in less than 1,000 theaters; this weekend, it expands to more than 2,500 screens, and is expected to give Clayface a serious (and literal) run for its money.
