Genden Phuntsok and Tom Hiddleston go the distance in Tenzing trailer

Great people appreciate great people, as we see in this friendly, uplifting new trailer for Tenzing, the first narrative feature from Australian documentary filmmaker Jennifer Peedom (Sherpa). The film tells the true story of Nepalese-Indian Sherpa guide Tenzing Norgay, played by Genden Phuntsok, who, on May 29, 1953, joined New Zealand mountaineer Sir Edmund Hillary (Tom Hiddleston) in the first confirmed ascent of Everest—or, rather, Chomolungma, revered as the “sacred mother goddess” in Tibetan culture. In this trailer courtesy of Apple Original Films, we see the juxtaposition of human endeavor—and all the perils that come with scaling such an enormous mountain—with life-affirming moments, rendered with stunning fidelity to wring a few tears from you before you’ve even seen the movie. “You paved the way…” Hiddleston says as the dramatic music swells. “For all of us.” Willem Dafoe also stars as the expedition’s leader, John Hunt, after narrating Peedom’s 2017 documentary Mountain.
