Gillian Anderson to make Thatcherism cool in The Crown's fourth season
Gillian Anderson won’t appear in season two of American Gods, but, if it’s any consolation, the X-Files star will star in an upcoming season of Netflix’s The Crown. Deadline reports that Anderson will play the plum role of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, who served as the U.K.’s “Iron Lady” from 1979 to 1990.
If that timeline sounds well ahead of where the series is at currently, that’s because Anderson’s Thatcher won’t rear her ginger mane until season four. Considering the series’ third season has yet to air, it’s safe to say it’s going to be a while before she graces your queues.
The good news, though, is that The Crown’s third season looks pretty great. Olivia Colman is stepping in as Queen Elizabeth II, and her The Favourite co-star Helena Bonham Carter will co-star as Princess Margaret. Also joining the season three cast will be Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip and Ben Daniels as Antony Armstrong-Jones. Per Deadline, the season will begin in 1963 and follow events such as the rise of the Beatles and the U.K.’s 1966 World Cup win. No premiere date is currently set.
