Gotham shares first look at secret lair that is not the Batcave

At the end of Gotham’s first season, young Bruce Wayne and Alfred discovered a secret lair beneath Wayne Manor, and the underground room will apparently become a crucial part of Bruce’s life in season two. So why aren’t we calling it the Batcave? Because apparently, although all signs indicate that this is indeed the Batcave, it’s not actually the Batcave. It’s just like how Gotham decided to make Jessica Lucas play a cat-themed villain who wasn’t Catwoman. Oh, how the folks behind Gotham love to mess with our heads.

David Mazouz, who plays little Bruce, said the lair “changes everything in Bruce’s life. It changes how he sees Alfred, the criminal side of Gotham, even how he sees his parents.” The main distinction between this crummy ol’ subterranean room of mysteries and the Batcave is that there aren’t any gadgets or costumes or Batmobiles down here—just clues. “It’s definitely not the Batcave,” Mazouz said. “What is down there are clues to Thomas Wayne’s secret life and what he was trying to do before being killed.”

So basically, it’s just a glorified basement with some old shit in it. But hey, all Batcaves have to start somewhere. Gotham returns to making up villains on Monday, September 21 at 8 p.m.
