Hayley Atwell didn't appreciate being "frisbeed to death" in Multiverse Of Madness

Speaking at For the Love of Fantasy & Sci-Fi convention in London this weekend (via IGN), Atwell said the scene felt like a “bum steer and a complete disservice to the character.” The version killed in Multiverse Of Madness isn’t the same Agent Carter from previous installments. Atwell is playing Captain Carter, a version from a universe where she has a Union Jack-adorned vibranium shield, a slick new costume, and a jetpack. In the context of the film, it’s a chance to get some audience applause while also upending and needling their expectations. However, while Atwell “loved the idea” of her wearing the suit and carrying the shield, she wasn’t a fan of “how they positioned the character and what happened to her in that scene. It’s so small, and she gets frisbeed to death.” When she does something cool, like uttering Rogers’ famous line, “I could do this all day,” she is immediately “frisbeed to death,” which Atwell read as a response to her saying Cap’s catchphrase, “like, no, you couldn’t.” She thought it made the character look “lame.” For what it’s worth, she did try to protect her character. She continued, “I tried on set to kind of go, ‘Can I just add? Can I just suggest?’ And they were like, ‘Sure, but no.'”

She’ll have a chance to redeem Peggy Carter in Avengers: Doomsday, presumably in a hastily written scene where Captain America tells her he’s leaving her to go fight Doctor Doom.
