The faith-based TV series about the Bible's most famous slingshot-wielding king is coming to an end after three seasons.

The House Of David is closing up shop

After three seasons of faith-based giant-slaying, House Of David, Amazon and Wonder Project’s hit biblical series, is taking the proverbial self-inflicted slingshot to the head. Per Variety, as was foretold by the creators—not God, executive producers Jon Erwin and Jon Gunn—the show was always intended to run three seasons, with this third and final outing filming in Greece right now. In a statement, Erwin and Gunn said, “Season Three brings us to the final season of this trilogy—the chapter of David’s life we set out to tell from the very beginning[…]We hope audiences feel just how far David has come by the time his story reaches the throne.”

Neither an installment of the House Of The Dragon nor Of Cards lineage, House Of David tells of a different kind of house, one built by a carpenter. That carpenter? King David’s carpenter. At least according to the Good Book’s Old Testament, David (played by Michael Iskander) was the second king of Israel and the leader of the Tribe of Judah. David is most famous for slaying Goliath (Martyn Ford), a main-event bout featured in the show’s climactic first-season finale, when David realizes the stone he’s been carrying around could be used for murder. After defeating Goliath, David, once a peaceful shepherd, becomes his people’s chosen king. But before he can assume the throne, he has one final challenge. In the third and final season, David will be exiled and forced to hide among his enemies, where he’ll learn the “true cost of destiny—the betrayals endured, the identities shed, and the sacrifices demanded of a hero before he can rise to the throne.”
