Paramount seeks even more ways To Lose A Guy In 10 Days

Paramount is re-exploring how exactly Kate Hudson lost a guy in 10 days. Variety reports Paramount is developing a sequel to Hudson and Matthew McConaughey’s first rom-com collaboration, with the actress aboard to produce. Obviously, the hope is that enough time has passed and that, despite taking less than a fortnight for Hudson to lose McConaughey, both would reprise the roles of Andie Anderson and Benjamin Barry to save the butter-yellow gown industry.

The sequel would presumably be in the same vein as other recent ’00s comedy legacy sequels, like The Devil Wears Prada 2, with the cast returning to wander the wasteland of American media. The original, like Prada, sees Andie (Hudson, in another Prada connection) looking to take the next step in her journalism career. An author of popular “how to” articles, she aspires to write the titular article by wooing and losing a guy in rapid succession. She sets her sights on Barrie (McConaughey), an advertising executive and a bit of a cad, who bet his buddies that he can make any woman fall in love with him. The chemistry between the pair generated massive box office returns and a reunion film, Fool’s Gold, before McConaughey’s willingness to do any rom-com that came across his desk killed the genre as we know it.

This is the latest ’00s rom-com or rom-com-adjacent title to join the legacy sequel brigade. Next month, Practical Magic 2 dances around the kitchen island back into theaters, while a “rebuttal” to Serendipity is in the works with Michael Showalter directing.
