It’s finally possible to play at least some of Super Mario 64 in HD

When Super Mario 64 was originally released, the game was a revelation, both in game play (wall jumping!) and graphics (3D landscapes!). Nearly two decades later, a student named Erik Ross has decided to improve upon the original by using his Super Character Controller program to create an HD version of the game—and more specifically, SM64’s first level, “Bob-Omb Battlefield.” The results are breathtaking, with crisp colors and seamless control of Mario’s movements. (The new, brassier theme music doesn’t hurt either.) Added bonus: Fans can also play the game via a web browser or download a desktop version as well.
