According to Bloody Disgusting, the Get Out writer-director is currently in talks to produce a remake of classic horror film Candyman, through his Monkeypaw Productions banner. The original came out in 1992, and even with two sequels subsequently released (Farewell To The Flesh is pretty good!), it’s been more than 20 years since we’ve had a Candyman movie, and the rights to the property are apparently once more available. Of course, even with Peele only producing and not directing, this might be the horror-movie straw that breaks the artist’s creative back, struggling as it presumably is under the preexisting weight of a Twilight Zone reboot, a Lorena Bobbit docuseries, stop-motion animated film Wendall And Wild, an Amazon series about Nazi hunters in the ’70s, and the HBO adaptation of Lovecraft Country. That’s all in addition to his current film, Us, scheduled for release in March 2019. So who knows if this’ll actually become a reality, though we have to admit we wouldn’t mind seeing his creative fingerprints on a reboot, if anyone’s going to do it.
Oh! And a YouTube Premium anthology series. He’s also doing that. But hey, 3-3:30 p.m. on Tuesday afternoons are probably still free for Peele, right?
