Miley Cyrus to appear in the next season of Black Mirror
Who better to guide us into the dystopia than our nation’s most memed? Miley Cyrus, the child actor-turned pop star whose career has veered from wholesome to scandalous to wholesome again, is said to be starring in Black Mirror’s fifth season.
That revelation comes from Miley’s older sister, Brandi, who dropped the bomb on a December 11 episode of her podcast, Your Favorite Thing. In discussing the pair’s recent trip to Cape Town, South Africa, Brandi confirmed existing rumors that Miley was there to film an episode of Charlie Brooker’s sci-fi anthology.
Those rumors first spread in South African news site IOL, which quoted a local hotel manager who said that Miley was there to film Black Mirror. Brandi added that Miley would star in the episode alongside actor Marc Menchaca, who you may recognize as Ozark’s ultra-hairy Russ Langmore. Maybe we’ll get to choose which direction their adventure takes? We’ll see.
Of course, none of this has been officially confirmed by Miley’s camp, so take it all with the requisite grain of salt. Should it prove true, though, it would mark the singer’s first onscreen gig since 2016's Crisis In Six Scenes, a six-episode series from Woody Allen. She will, though, appear on this Saturday’s SNL to promote “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart,” a new single with Mark Ronson.
According to 95.5 PLJ, she’s also at work on a new album with producer Mike WiLL Made-It.
Update: Billboard reports that Miley Cyrus confirmed that she will play a role in the series on Howard Stern’s Sirius XM on Wednesday. “If you guess it, then I will shake my head ‘yes,’” she told Stern, who then informed his audience that she indeed shook her head “yes.” Apparently Miley is unsure of whether or not she can utter the show’s name since nobody told her she can speak on it publicly yet.
