James Cameron dreams of a world without 3-D glasses
James Cameron, that wild dreamer, has some big plans for those Avatar sequels he is still apparently making. While accepting his honorary membership into the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, Cameron spoke about his vision for a world in which moviegoers won’t have to put on those dorky glasses—which are especially cumbersome if you wear specs already—when they go to see a 3-D film. ”I’m still very bullish on 3-D, but we need brighter projection, and ultimately I think it can happen — with no glasses,” he said, according to a report from Indiewire. “We’ll get there.” Cameron was riffing on what he’d like to accomplish with his four upcoming Avatar movies, explaining that he also wants to employ high dynamic range and high frame rates.
