Jennifer Lawrence is all done getting painted blue for a paycheck, thank you very much

Lawrence is officially over the kind of eight-hour makeup chair ordeals she used to have to endure to play X-Men's Mystique.

Jennifer Lawrence is all done getting painted blue for a paycheck, thank you very much

Jennifer Lawrence has been taking a bit of a victory lap at the moment, largely inspired by her decision to (briefly) return to the Hunger Games franchise for its upcoming prequel-plus-some-framing-story-bits Sunrise On The Reaping. But while she’s been expressing genuine gratitude for the role that Katniss Everdeen has played in her life, Lawrence has been a little less effusive about the thought of ever playing one of her other big franchise characters again.

“Absolutely fucking not,” Lawrence responded, in a recent Allure interview (per Variety), when asked if she’d ever consider doing a job that involved getting the extensive paint and prosthetics that went into her costumes for the X-Men franchise’s Mystique again. While cautioning that she’d “Never say never,” Lawrence nevertheless sounded pretty damn “never” about the whole idea. “You know how air brushing is very cold?” she asked, “reminiscing” on the process of getting into the Mystique look, which she’s said took eight hours when she first appeared as the character in X-Men: First Class. “And I am ticklish. I learned how little sleep I can operate on and what can happen to the human mind when you’ve actually reached your breaking point. And patience!”

Lawrence ultimately soldiered on through four X-Men movies, where, we can’t help but note, several of her co-stars didn’t seem to have to go through much more than the occasional shaved head, or pressing their fingers to their temples while doing an “I am lifting a building with the power of my mind/magnets” face. She did speak warmly about doing the movies’ stunts, including noting that she’d worked with Renee Moneymaker, who’d previously been her double on Hunger Games, on the character of Mystique. But anybody hoping that Marvel’s recent push to get all the X-Men back into the fold might include any of the First Class bunch should probably know that it’s going to run straight into a wall of Lawrence really not wanting to spend her life in blue paint anymore, thanks. (That being said, Rebecca Romjin, one of the few people on the planet who might really, truly understand Lawrence’s plight here, has agreed to come back to the franchise for this December’s Avengers: Doomsday.)
