Jennifer Lawrence now openly talking about returning to Katniss role

With about three weeks until The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping releases, Jennifer Lawrence seems to have been given the green light to talk openly about returning as Katniss Everdeen in the prequel—or maybe she decided to go rogue. During an appearance on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast, released Wednesday, Cooper asked Lawrence what it was like to reprise her role. Without hesitation, the actor recalled being on set with Josh Hutcherson (Peeta Mellark) and also let slip that Woody Harrelson will return as Haymitch Abernathy, which wasn’t publicly known up until this point. Lawrence said the experience was “unbelievable” and the cast fell back into their old ways. “It was so crazy,” she said. “It was the same crew. It was the same camera guys, the same AD who I’ve worked with a million times, too, because I love him. And Josh and Woody. It was so emotional. Josh and I didn’t walk to the bathroom without our arms around each other. It was so beautiful. And Woody, obviously, came through the window of my hotel room uninvited, because it wouldn’t be the same if he listened to boundaries and used a door.”

Lawrence and Hutcherson’s involvement in the movie had been somewhat of an open secret. Suzanne Collins’ Sunrise On The Reaping book is set 24 years before the first THG novel and centers on 16-year-old Haymitch competing in the 50th Hunger Games (also known as the Second Quarter Quell), winning and trying to spark a rebellion. In the present-day epilogue, after Katniss has successfully taken down the Capitol and ended the games, Haymitch reconnects with her and Peeta and finally finds peace. With that ending, fans hoped to see Lawrence, Hutcherson, and Harrelson back on the big screen together. Then in December, Variety reported that Lawrence and Hutcherson were set to reprise their roles in the prequel. In interviews this year, the actors gave cagey answers about their supposed appearances. But Maya Hawke, who plays young Wiress in Sunrise On The Reaping, sort of confirmed Lawrence’s cameo on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. If that wasn’t explicit confirmation, the cat is officially out of the bag, thanks to Katniss herself.
