The Savant has returned to Apple TV’s slate, and Jessica Chastain is commenting on the obligation she felt when the series’ fate was in limbo after it was pulled from the 2025 calendar. “I felt responsible to a lot of people, to all of the actors in the series… to the real person I played, I felt accountability to her because of the sacrifices that she’s made and the difficult things she’s done to keep us all safe,” Chastain said in an interview with Porter published on Monday. The actor, who portrays a top-secret undercover investigator known as the Savant, said that she felt the need to “go on record” and state that she thought The Savant‘s delay was a “mistake,” while still being respectful. “I learned that it’s OK to be honest,” she said. “You can be honest in a kind and respectful way and feel like you’re still speaking your truth, you’re still authentic to who you are without being fearful of–I don’t know–I guess of never working again.”

The Savant is based on a 2019 Cosmopolitan article by Andrea Stanley titled “Is It Possible To Stop A Mass Shooting Before It Happens?” which details the work of a real-life person, known as the Savant, who infiltrates online hate groups in an effort to stop domestic extremists from acting. The limited series was originally supposed to debut on Apple TV on September 26, 2025, but was pulled from the schedule and delayed indefinitely three days beforehand, following Charlie Kirk’s assassination. Many criticized the postponement, including Chastain, who felt the show was timelier and more important than ever. In an Instagram post shared at the time, Chastain made it clear that she wasn’t aligned with Apple TV’s decision. “The Savant is about the heroes who work every day to stop violence before it happens, and honoring their courage feels more urgent than ever,” she wrote. “While I respect Apple’s decision to pause the release for now, I remain hopeful the show will reach audiences soon.” Consistent with Deadline’s recent report, Chastain confirmed to Porter that the show will in fact see the light of day and premiere on Apple TV in spring 2027.
