Weezer bassist's wife shot by cops, arrested on suspicion of attempted murder

Jillian Lauren, an author whose biggest claims to fame include being married to Scott Shriner, long-time bassist for Weezer, was apparently shot, and then arrested, by the LAPD this week. Per NPR, Lauren has been charged on suspicion of attempted murder. Lauren’s injury was non-fatal, and she’s reportedly been released on bond, with a court date set for April 30.

All of this apparently started with a police chase that doesn’t seem to have had anything to do with Lauren: Cops were after three people who were involved in a hit-and-run, one of whom ran into Lauren’s neighborhood. Cops then saw Lauren standing with a firearm in a neighboring yard, and, hey, let’s go ahead and just quote the police press release here: “The officers ordered Shriner to drop the handgun numerous times; however, she refused. Shriner then pointed the handgun at the officers, and an Officer-Involved Shooting occurred.”

Lauren apparently retreated into her house, and then emerged shortly after with another woman, both unarmed. She was “absentee booked” on suspicion of attempted murder, and then sent to the hospital for treatment of her, uh, Officer-Involved Wound, which was apparently to her shoulder.

Weezer is currently booked to play Coachella this weekend; no word yet on whether this fairly bizarre development in its bassist’s home life will have any impact on the show. Outsider her association with the band, Lauren herself is a fairly prolific author: She previously penned a memoir about being a member of the harem of the prince of Brunei, while her most recent book was a true crime effort, Behold The Monster.
