Spotify is staying in the Joe Rogan business, whether that’s COVID misinformation or providing a platform for members of the Trump administration. Whatever it is, a lot of people are going to hear (and maybe even see) it. As such, Spotify renewed its multi-year deal with Rogan this morning, which The Wall Street Journal estimates to be worth $250 million. It’s not immediately clear how long this deal will last, but given that it’s described as “multi-year,” it seems we’ll be in for yet another presidential election with Rogan on the airwaves.
“The partnership with Spotify has been an amazing fit, and they’re incredible to work with. I’m extremely happy and excited to continue with them for years to come,” said Rogan in a press statement. Said Spotify’s Jordan Newman, “Joe has built something incredibly enduring, and his show continues to resonate with a massive global audience because there’s simply nothing else like it.”
Rogan’s podcast first hit the internet in the final days of 2009, and grew into the kind of major platform that Spotify would want to license by 2020. Coming to Spotify also brought more scrutiny to what Rogan was actually sharing on-air, which, after 2020, was pseudoscience about COVID and misinformation about vaccines. This is the reason Neil Young briefly left Spotify, but in 2024, the podcast ceased being a Spotify exclusive, and the other streaming services picked it up, leading to what some might call an “anti-reality doomsday cult” of media and comedy. Well, there’s more where that came from!
