Joel McHale signs on for more of The Soup, chance to make the sort of programming mocked on The Soup

While Community awaits its inevitable renewal for at least sixteen more seasons and a variety hour, Joel McHale has already locked down gainful employment elsewhere by renewing his contract at The Soup for another two years, taking the show through its eleventh season. The multimillion-dollar deal comes shortly after McHale launched his own production company, Free Period, to develop scripted series through Sony, and it includes a new arrangement for that same company to develop unscripted series at E!—a process overseen by McHale's longtime friend and collaborator Jason Burns, who previously ran E!'s Hugh Hefner's Daddy Issues After Dark shows like The Girls Next Door, Kendra, et al. In other words, McHale could soon become the very thing he mocks, haunted by the needling echoes of his own laughter as Reality Show Clip Time stretches into eternity.
