John Oliver has a refreshingly simple action plan for Tuesday's midterms
As the Last Week Tonight host explains, there's no shame in running up the score when your opponents are trying to rig the game.

With Sunday’s Last Week Tonight airing just two days before the beyond-pivotal midterm elections, John Oliver made a final pitch to voters. Unsurprisingly that pitch was to vote, and vote hard. As Oliver noted, even though it’s looking like a bloodbath for Republicans at this point, polls are often wrong, mega donors are flooding your TV with even more misleading/reprehensible ads than usual, and the sitting president is openly sowing the seeds of election denial should the expected Tuesday GOP-ocalypse occur. (If your party’s leader literally threatens rallygoers they’re going to hell if they don’t vote Republican, things are not going well.)
On the hopeful side, Oliver pointed out that voters are verifiably turning against Trump-related catastrophes like the Iran war, violent immigration goons stalking their streets, and rising prices on gas and literally everything else. (Is it bad when 99 percent of recent GOP candidates’ ads don’t mention Donald Trump at all?) Even the old Republican go-tos like anti-trans bigotry and naked racism against Hispanic and Arab people aren’t playing like they used to. Showing an official White House Halloween tweet attempting to scare (white) voters with an image of a sombrero carved into a pumpkin, Oliver could only marvel at the incompetent messaging. “Witch’s hat, top hat, both creepy, sure. But if you’re walking along in the woods, someone comes around the corner and all you can make out is their sombrero? Brother, something festive this way comes.”
